Inspired by a transformative trip to Thailand, Sam Avant launched the Beach Season project in 2014 with the EP Internet Evening, blending chillwave, alt-pop, and emotionally driven vocals. Released on Calgary’s Close to Modern label, it marked the beginning of a unique musical journey. Shortly after, half-Thai producer/songwriter Simon Blitzer, raised in Bangkok, joined the project. Beach Season’s first major label release came in 2016 with Libra Year on Universal Music Canada. Their next EP, Time & Place (2018), showcased bold R&B and indie electronic influences, inspired by their travels and experiences in London, Toronto, New York, and LA. After departing from the label in 2019, the duo embraced independence, continuing to push creative boundaries. Their 2022 mini-EP, Mornings, featured live orchestral compositions, marking a progressive shift toward existential themes influenced by the pandemic. In 2024, Sam was nominated for the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year Award at the Juno Awards for his work with Charlotte Cardin. Beach Season is now working on their debut album, collaborating with Grammy Award-winning engineer Matt Blank, marking a new era in their evolving sound.
