About

Sharon

If empathy had a voice and pain learned to sing, the sound would take form as Darkened Skies, a band born from poetry written in the ruins of a dream. Fronted by husband-and-wife duo Sharon and James Purdy, this Edmonton-based progressive rock and metal act bridges raw emotion with sonic precision. Sharon, a Cree-Métis artist, writes from lived experience, transforming trauma, empathy, and rebirth into haunting first-person narratives. Influenced by Robert Smith of The Cure, her lyrics carry the same aching introspection and poetic despair, while her vocals cut through distortion with both fragility and fire. James and the band build the framework, melding the immersive, meditative power of Tool with the cinematic sweep of Pink Floyd. The result is music that lives between chaos and calm, where every track unfolds like confession and catharsis. Winners of 3rd place at the 2023 Music in Motion Canada Awards and semi-finalists at the 2024 Blues on Whyte Battle of the Bands, Darkened Skies has ignited stages at Shockerfest alongside Derev and The Fixer. Sharon also received Best Original Song (2022 YYC Rising Star Awards) as a co-writer with Jacquie Daniels. Darkened Skies is where empathy finds distortion and melody becomes release.
