Shanika Sunrise is a menace. A transfemme Indian rapper and music producer who writes and produces all of her own music, Miss Sunrise started making music in 2017 as catharsis during a teenage cancer diagnosis. Since then, she has lit up stages everywhere from Paris to New York, and opened for stars such as Chappell Roan. Whilst her music spans various genres, Shanika’s music is always lively and energetic, and her metaphorical and comedic lyrics are designed to entertain and empower her audiences. This year, Shanika toured Europe supporting Canadian artist Queen Priyanka, and was the official tour support on separate occasions for Moonchild Sanelly and CupcakKe. Shanika is also currently one of the few selected artists on the Factory Sounds programme by Factory International, a scheme sponsored by Adidas which aims to mentor and train the next generation of artists in the Manchester music scene. At Shanika’s shows, you can expect her breakdancing, rallying earworm crowd chants and pumping adrenaline through her microphone.
