For over two decades, Polaris Prize–longlisted Toronto duo LAL; Bengali-rooted vocalist and activist Rosina Kazi and Barbados-born producer Nicholas “Murr” Murray, have built a catalogue of silvery, internationally influenced electronica that insists the dancefloor remain a site of resistance and renewal. Formed in 1998, LAL is a legacy Canadian electronic collective known for fusing dub, soul, Bengali folk, Caribbean traditions, and experimental sound with urgent social and political consciousness. Their music interrogates migration, queer/trans liberation, colonial violence, and belonging, while imagining new worlds of joy, safety, and collective healing. Deeply rooted in Toronto’s activist and arts communities, LAL continues to transform sound into social dialogue, building space for movement, spirit, and resistance through rhythm and connection.
