Maxwell Close is a dynamic jazz-fusion drummer, composer, and bandleader whose sound pushes far beyond traditional boundaries. Raised in Pennington, NJ and now based in Boston, he’s been drumming since early childhood, shaping a voice defined by explosive energy, deep groove, and a fearless openness to new textures. A rising presence in the Boston scene, Maxwell has performed at the Berklee Performance Center, Middle East Upstairs, the Boston Conservatory, and the Geneva Jazz Festival. His recent headlining show at the BPC drew roughly 150 people and marked his strongest performance yet, showcasing the power of his band, the Maxwell Close Collective, and the momentum behind his work. Maxwell is currently preparing for an ambitious spring season, planning appearances at jazz festivals and expanding his reach to new audiences. His mission is to bring his fusion, driven sound to wider stages, introduce more listeners to his music, and continue building a community around his boundary-breaking artistic vision.
