Laird is a Brooklyn-based musician, composer, and educator, born and raised in the mountains of Western Colorado. A dedicated student of music, he studied with master artists including George Garzone, Godwin Louis, Rich Perry, and Tivon Penicott. After attending Berklee College of Music, he earned a master’s degree in Jazz Studies from NYU Steinhardt. Since relocating to New York City, Laird has been an active presence on the city’s jazz and creative music scene, performing at venues such as Nublu, The Blue Note, BRIC, and clubs throughout the boroughs. His work is rooted in storytelling, drawing inspiration from the landscapes and communities that have shaped his musical voice. Laird’s debut album, slated for release in early 2026, presents a collection of original compositions reflecting on the people and places central to his journey. The project features a standout lineup of New York City’s rising talent, including JK Kim on drums, Leighton Harrell on bass, and Erika Toda on guitar.
