About

Laura

Calgary’s Laura Hickli is an internationally touring dark art pop songstress known for tightly-arranged dreamy soundscapes, exquisite vocals, evocative lyrics, and emotionally powerful live shows. Performance is visceral and transformative for her: on stage, she writhes and sways, folding into herself like she’s summoning something from deep within. A classically trained pianist who grew up homeschooled in a conspiracy-laden household, Hickli developed a singular ability to translate deeply felt emotion into dynamic, textured, and technically rich songwriting and production. Now signed to Ba Da Bing Records (Sharon Van Etten, Beirut), she has earned multiple awards and nominations for her music and her film scores, regular airplay on CBC, BBC, and CKUA, and exceptional praise from recent festival performances, including BreakOut West and the Calgary Folk Music Festival. Her upcoming record, ‘stranger to myself,’ explores the depths of grief and recovery as Laura confronts mortality and the body’s fragility after a major van accident her band miraculously survived while touring in 2023. These themes expand in her gripping live show through intense, visceral performance art. Hickli’s fearless emotional vulnerability evokes profound audience response, making her performances both cathartic and unforgettable.
