About

Kossi Djidjogbe Barnabé

Miadénou Music is a dynamic West African fusion band rooted in the rich musical traditions of Togo and Benin and reimagined through a modern, electro-infused lens. Meaning “the music from home” in the Ewe language, Miadénou blends ancestral rhythms with contemporary sound design to create a vibrant, border-defying experience that is both deeply cultural and refreshingly innovative. Formed by four multi-instrumentalist brothers — Henoc Agbelessessi (vocals & guitar), Esdras Agbelessessi (vocals & bass), Barnabé Afangbedji (vocals, drums & traditional percussion), and Denis Afangbedji (vocals & keyboards) — the band unites tight vocal harmonies, electric guitars, grooving bass lines, and traditional percussion such as gankogui, kagan, shekere, and tchink. Their mission is to modernize and globalize the rhythms of their homeland by blending them with electronic textures, cinematic arrangements, and contemporary stage energy. Whether on intimate stages or large festival settings, Miadénou Music delivers a powerful performance rooted in heritage, spirituality, and dance-driven energy. Based in Dakar and performing across West Africa, the group is now expanding internationally. At Departure Festival, Miadénou Music seeks to showcase a fresh Afro-electro identity while connecting with global audiences, collaborators, and music industry professionals.
