Recipient of Top 25 Women of Influence Award (2025), Karen’s decades-long career as a music journalist in Toronto includes 13 years as the Canadian correspondent for Billboard (US) and more than a hundred articles for Rolling Stone US. A freelance music journalist since her teens, her work has also appeared in Variety (US), SPIN (US), Pollstar (US), Music Week (UK), SOCAN, The Hollywood Reporter (US), Melody Maker (UK), NME (UK), and dozens more. She has interviewed thousands of artists, including Kurt Cobain, Eminem, Eddie Vedder, Taylor Swift, Lauryn Hill, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Shania Twain, Christina Aguilera, Michael Bublé, Britney Spears, Metallica, and Gwen Stefani. Karen once ran a short-lived label Daycare Records and was a co-producer, researcher and interviewer on the music documentary Chasing Fortune, which aired on Superchannel and CBC Documentary. She is most proud of the 2023 investigative piece for Billboard US on an alleged serial rapist in the Canadian music business.
