Spouses is a project by Canadian musician Joel Durksen. In 2023 he moved from the UK to Iceland to live on a horse-breeding farm, where he is building a recording studio in a stable — dubbed Kálfholt Studios. The debut album I Could Be Your Dog, was recorded there and is released May 22 via Kálfholt Records. While in Liverpool he was a live member of Brad Stank, playing bass/trumpet. Despite a successful career as a live member ahead of him he decided to walk away to pursue his own artistic vision. “I called myself a songwriter but I wasn’t writing many songs. I just needed to be alone for a while.” The first single Splinter from I Could Be Your Dog was released 27. November, 2025 and received early support from The Line of Best Fit, The Yellow Button, and Exclaim! as well as Undiraldan – RÁS2 and RÚV English in Iceland.
