Francis Baptiste is an Indigenous songwriter whose work explores cultural reclamation, addiction, and fatherhood. CBC has called him “unsparingly candid,” and described his single “Lazy Lake” as “lushly hypnotic.” He released his third album, Lived Experience, in October 2025 and opened for JUNO Award winner Aysanabee the same season. Baptiste often emphasizes the importance of preserving Indigenous languages through his music, incorporating Nsyilxc?n into performances as a way to educate audiences and support cultural knowledge. Sharing his language on stage is both a personal mission and a powerful tool for connection. In 2022, he released his debut album, Sneqsilx (Family), featuring songs sung in Nsyilxc?n [nah-silk-sen], the endangered language of the Syilx [see-ilks] people. The 10-song album was created to preserve and reconnect with his heritage, offering grounding through difficult periods. His second album, Senklip, the Trickster (2024), examined oral traditions, intergenerational trauma, and the realities of being a recovering addict and father. Baptiste says that passing knowledge to the next generation can be both a gift and a challenge. The Georgia Straight writes: “Baptiste packs a lot of perspective into his music… His vulnerable folk rock songs about addiction and self-discovery are bluesy, bruised, and blossoming.
