About

Farzad

Farzad Milani is a Montreal-based musician and composer with a Master’s degree in Music Theory from McGill University, whose work bridges the worlds of Eastern and Western music with striking originality. Blending folk and traditional melodies from Iran and neighboring traditions with jazz harmonies and contemporary rhythmic textures, he creates a musical language that is both deeply rooted and forward-looking. Renowned for his innovative use of microtonality, Farzad performs on a custom quarter-tone accordion and has developed a unique Persian 17-tone system on piano, exploring new harmonic possibilities while staying true to the spirit of the traditions he draws from. His performances are marked by a sensitive interplay between intricate improvisation and rich compositional structure, offering audiences an immersive, cross-cultural journey.
