‘Smooth sailing never made a skilled sailor.’ Simple Sailor is a band from Toronto, Ontario that plays dreamy and dramatic rock music. Our songs ebb and flow from soothing psychedelic grooves to cathartic peaks of distortion. Simple Sailor began as a high school songwriting partnership between Dan DeMaria and Owen Norquay in 2003 in California. Growing up in the SoCal pop punk and jazz music scene, we moved to Toronto at the height of the indie music boom of the early 2000s. Our lives took chaotic turns over the next 20 years but music always remained constant. We met drummer Zack Madsen and have performed as a power trio for the past 5 years, at venues including The Monarch Tavern, Sneaky Dee’s, and the Supermarket. In an age where algorithms dominate culture we instead draw inspiration from the pure joy of making noise with your friends and screaming into the void. We’re keen songwriters who blend layered harmonies with lyrics that speak directly from emotional experiences. We pour ourselves into every performance and are eager to perform for more audiences in 2026.
