Kuiper is a project dedicated to healing and finding catharsis over his traumas and mental health issues. Much like the name implies, Zion relates his new musical identity to the orbiting comets, broken satellites, and ice found at the border of our galaxy: the Kuiper Belt. Although he has roots in Indie R&B, Kuiper goes beyond his former sound and takes inspiration from a wide variety of genres, such as the heavily distorted leads in hyperpop to the smooth rhythmic melodies of alternative pop and indie. The songs are topped off with his distinct melodies and various vocal textures. Written in the melodies are fragments of traumas that Zion experienced throughout his life that were left unheard, which he writes to heal from. Whether it be the unhealthy cycles of love found in his song “options” or the discomfort of a car ride with an abusive family in his song “DRIVE!”, Kuiper doesn’t hesitate to tell his many stories and experiences. Kuiper’s versatility knows no bounds, and with each story, he hopes to provide catharsis and healing for others who have gone or are going through similar experiences.
