Sakako is a Toronto-raised and based Japanese-Canadian pop, R&B, and jazz singer-songwriter known for her sultry, soulful vocals, catchy hooks, and introspective lyrics. Sakako’s music captivates audiences while celebrating themes of love, healing, and self-expression. She has performed at some of Toronto’s most respected venues, including The El Mocambo, The Drake Underground, and TD Music Hall, with her music featured on CBC Radio, MET Radio, Frisson Radio, and Jazz.FM. Sakako is currently working on new material with local producers and songwriters. Her previous releases, “Thanks to You,” “Lost in Translation,” and “Beautiful” have garnered over 25,000 streams across platforms, supported by FACTOR and Scarborough Arts. In 2022, Sakako co-directed and performed on the OAC funded vocal jazz album “Baby This, Baby That!”. Sakako also curates music events in Toronto under Dahlia World, showcasing LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC emerging and established artists in partnership with the City of Toronto and Exclaim! Magazine, with past venues including The Supermarket and The HandleBar. Sakako has toured Ontario and Florida with the Toronto All-Star Big Band, performing music from the 1930s to the 60s, and is a Honey Jam alumni and graduate of the Women in Music Canada Entrepreneurship Accelerator.
