The Honourable Adam van Koeverden is the Secretary of State (Sport) and Member of Parliament for the electoral district of Burlington North—Milton West. As Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he serves as Canada’s FIFA Sherpa to ensure a successful experience for spectators. Before entering politics, Mr. van Koeverden was one of Canada’s most accomplished athletes. He competed in four Summer Olympic Games, winning a gold, two silver, and a bronze medal, and served as Canada’s flag bearer in 2004 and 2008. He won the Northern Star Award as Canada’s top athlete in 2004. His previous parliamentary roles include Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Health, Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, and Sport. A first-generation Canadian and McMaster University valedictorian in Kinesiology, he has worked as a consultant at Deloitte and a broadcaster for CBC Sports. He is deeply involved in community leadership, volunteering for Right to Play, Special Olympics Canada, and WaterAid.Alongside his father, he also advocates for Parkinson Canada, continuing a lifelong commitment to advocacy, safe sport, and public speaking.
