SUMMARY:The third annual tribute to Dave Bookman featuring the music of Big Star
DESCRIPTION:Returning for a third year\, a special live tribute show honouring Dave Bookman. This year called\, ‘I’m In Love With That Song’ and featuring various artists covering the music of Big Star\, it’s expected\, like the years prior\, to be a venue filled with support and remembering the beloved\, respected and long-time music broadcaster\, Dave Bookman (known affectionately as Bookie). Always a difficult time of the year\, Dave fell ill suddenly on April 12\, 2019\, and passed away in the early morning on May 21\, 2019\, a devastating loss to his family and friends. Bookie provided foundational support to Indie music in the city\, not only on the radio but as host and co-curator of Nu Music Nite at The Horseshoe Tavern for 24 years. He was a long time DJ at both CFNY-102.1 (THE EDGE) and 88.1 (INDIE88). Bookie interviewed and befriended some of the biggest names in music.  \nSince 2024\, Bookie’s friends have come together to host a yearly tribute show\, gathering various artists to cover a pivotal album or favourite artist of Dave’s. This year\, featuring over 30 artists covering the songs from Big Star\, the I’m In Love With That Song event is confirmed for Saturday May 9\, 2026 @ The Garrison (1197 Dundas Street) in Toronto. The previous two years tribute shows\, featured a spectacular array of artists covering songs from both The Tragically Hip and The Replacements. This year\, is no exception and the show will again be supported by the returning All-Star House Band (aka) The Bookie Band\, consisting of\, Ian Blurton\, Jody Brummell\, Jud Ruhl\, and Anna Ruddick. As always\, Dave Bookman’s living room will be on display. \nPresented by INDIE88 and Departure admission to the show is FREE with a non-perishable food item for The Daily Bread Food Bank (CMW passes will be honoured\, with a donation). The show was organized again by Stephen Stanley (Lowest of The Low + Stephen Stanley Band) and Elliott Lefko (Goldenvoice)\, both incredibly close friends of Dave’s. Poster artwork (featuring Bookie) was created by JUNO Award winning graphic designer\, Antoine Moonen.
